Mercy me, sakes alive, and carrot
coffee!
The answer, of course, is “love,
love, love”! But
what, pray tell, is love? The question is raised in the January/February
issue of The AARP Magazine entitled “LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE”, by Dr. Pepper
Schwartz. And the particular aspect or variety of love that we wish to hone
in on here is the love between a man and a woman, and I will be so bold as to
label it right here and now as almost pure physical attraction.
The article quoted often from a recent French survey which found that 71
percent of French citizens ages 50 to 64 are “currently in love”. So in the
summer of 2009 the AARP surveyed 2,000 Americans - ages 18 to 65-plus, asking
several questions about love, and found that Americans 65-plus are actually
more romantic than the French! Sixty-three percent of them claimed to be in
love, compared to 46 percent of the French. Also, American intensity of love
was greater: 55 percent of the Americans claimed to be “very much” or
“passionately” in love, compared with 49 percent of the French.
The article also raised the question “Can you have love without sex, and
vice-versa?” It seems here quite clear that one can have sex without love,
and love without sex, but maybe not for long!
Hooray for and God bless America! Let us keep the world going around!
